Just to give you an idea of the force of the tsunami in Hambantota, here’s a telecom tower –or what’s left of it.
Andrew Samuel sent these pics and a comment:
These pics are of the city of Hambantota which is now fully bulldozed.
You will notice there are more vehicles to be cabled out of the mud and
water. This is a really sad site. The telecom tower has just crumbled down to
ball of metal.

Wanted to see a larger version of those pictures but it didn’t work

dear sir,
i just returned from srilanka, i am sorry i could not give more time to the people, i spent my eid vacation not with my family but in srilanka, but now that i have returned to my job, i cannot focus on my work, the dead bodies are in my mind, the 3 that i help carry and burry in a single grave, the running of children here and there in the relief camps looking for their mothers and fathers, i tried to catch them but my heart came out when they refused my food and water and asked me where are their parents. i could not controll my self at the report of a ganag rape case of a 17 year old miss galle 2004. all this made me crazy, i saw gangsters selling ganja cigerattes to relief workers saying for releasing their tension . i never expected that. i was in bangladesh few years back when there was flood, and i never expected what i saw in srilnaka, the situation was ……………. the releif workers were doing their best but it was not enough, soon the helping hands will go away. what will happen then? my humble suggestion to all is that invest in the fishing in srilanka cos the majority of the loss , is of the fishermen, they have lost everything, and their govt is not capable enough to do much.
i have seen people dont need food their, or clothing, what they need is hope and livelyhood. dont give them food give them ways to make their own food.
